About

Why, hello there...

Oh man I hate these pages. No, seriously. Not even in a self-deprecating, Kurt Cobain kind of way do I mean that. Having an about page is like having a written statement posted outside your house to explain to visitors why you bought the house. That's lame.

But because I want to be just like the other kiddies on the playground, I figured I should have one. Oh, and one of those sweet Starter™ coats with the Chicago Bulls logo on it. That too.

Now that we've gotten the justifications out there, some general info:

Um, what's with the name, bro?

What, Brian? That's a perfectly normal na...oh. Denyingphoenix. Well, in an act of laziness I'll quote what I penned when I started the site:

The Phoenix (a supernatural bird) lives for a span of 1,000 years. Once this time has passed, the Phoenix builds its own funeral pyre, throws itself into the flames, and as it dies it is reborn anew, rising from the ashes to live for another 1,000 years. Redemption through ashes; cyclic birth and death for an overarching purpose; dying at the price of one's own will. I have always been struck by the universality of this legend: rebirth. Spiritually, behaviorally, culturally...the notion of purgation and self-immolation runs rampant but yet silent and often overlooked. My art, my writing, my music, my spirituality and my life in general are reflected in the ether of the Phoenix allegory.

In closing, the site is simply an outlet for me emotionally. Hey, it saves money on therapy, doesn't it?

What do you use to publish this 'web log?'

MoveableType is the engine, and lovingly crafted CSS and some fancy blue'n'orange pixels makes it look mildly presentable.

I also use a few niffty plugins, including PreviousNextInCategory, RandomEntries, and SmartyPants.

Why does it suck so badly? No I mean it, both the writing and the design...

Good question. Guess I should have become a rodeo clown instead.
