5 Things I Love for Friday #109

  1. Swivel liqueur glass - If you’re going to swirl your liquer glass anyway, why not have a gorgeous, well-designed vessel to help you? Would make a nice conversation piece too.
  2. Coheed and Cambria singer gets 84% on own song in “Rock Band” [video] - Pretty funny. Plus, Kevin (the host) ain’t bad on the drums when challenged.
  3. The new designs for British coinage - Continually putting our money to shame. [via]
  4. Parenting, Inc. - Linked to by several folks this week, it’s a good article on parenting in modern culture. I’m trying to resist all those bulky, plastic toys with batteries already, but feel like it’s going to be a losing battle.
  5. Drum Machine Robot [video] - Guy builds a robot that roams around collecting data, looking for an object to create a sound. Then it records itself, plays the sample back while accompanying itself. I can die satisfied, now.

I'm glad you like our new coin designs, I'm quite taken with them myself! I'm looking forward to seeing them out in circulation.

I heard one critic say the 20p is 'reduced to a lion's rear end' but everyone else seems to like them. And I'm very glad that for once the newspapers are informing people these were designed by a graphic designer!! We are rarely mentioned by name here, which explains why Joe Public never knows what the hell it is I do...

Those Coins are badass! I'm all for a coin system here in US that would extend past the quarter.(I know that there are dollars out there, but when was the last time that you paid for something with the Sacajawea coin?)

Actually Brad, there's a bar here in Seattle that gives change in the Sacajawea coins - which is actually kinda nice for when i take the bus home from the bars.

@ Rudy
Maybe you should take some of those coins and bribe Mike to take you off the AWOL Alumni list!

@ Brad -
It was all part of my master plan to avoid their phone calls asking for $$$

@ Rudy

Simple solution:

Ask them for an alumni scholarship for something first and they will never call you again.

Leader of the Black Parade

When I was in junior high, there was only one other kid who was an alter boy with me. We had a small school. Needless to say, in one year I served 88 funerals and even got bussed to other parishes to do the same. I never attended a wedding until I was 19.
